Just thought that I would show my latest patriotic project!
Our country is 150 this year, so there is lots happening to celebrate Canada's Sesquicentennial.
But first ... our flag just celebrated its 52nd birthday.
Yes, a young country, and even younger flag.
To celebrate our flag's 52 years, I made this flag/quilt, finishing at 20"x40".
Symbolically, I used 52 fabrics: 50 different reds plus the background and backing fabrics.
The end borders are log cabins blocks (1/2" finished logs), as a nod to our pioneers first homes.
The central maple leaf was cut from a patchwork of 3/4" finished squares, then added as an applique.
For the quilting, I used a simple wave to emulate the flag flying, but not on the leaf.
The maple leaf was echo'd and then quilted with 281 tiny glass beads used with the hand quilting.
If you zoom in on the leaf you can see those beads.
Likewise, zoom and you can probably read the label.
Thanks for looking ... and helping to celebrate our 52nd and 150th!

Thank You Ladies!
W4Me ... I have two spots in my home where it will fly high .
For sure, it will be around for a long time!!
JeanieG ... how long?
Total time .... not a lot. Clock time ... a long time!
A lot of "life happens" interruptions as I worked on it.

If you go back a few posts to #1321, you will see one of my 150th projects.
I've got another flimsy completed, but still to photo.
Sadly, the quilting will not be done for the 1st of July.
Though I still plan to post a picture of what is in the works.
We'll all be looking forward to seeing your new wallet and tote ... great choices!!!
