Lovely Quilts, AnnaQuilts ... are you going to join us and do a new Patriotic project? Hope so!

****Rolls out the Red Welcome Mat!!!****

Welcome Ladies!!!!!!

MimiStutz
... It'll be good to have you in the "neighbourhood" for your Campvention!! You'll enjoy the Blyth area and no doubt, will go a little further west to our Sunshine Coast to enjoy the sun and sand ... and the sunsets are incredible too! What a great theme, the Inukshuk!! Your idea of a flag is great and we'll look forward to seeing what you create. With everyone getting into the spirit, it should make for a fun time at the Campvention!!

MimiBug ... Glad you "found" that lost Jelly Roll ... creative ideas coming forth yet? There's some great projects with Jelly Rolls that would be perfect for a patriotic spirit.

OMG ... just realized we have
TWO "Mimi's" arriving together!!

MissCountryGirl ... Now do't be shy!! I see you are new around these parts, so hope you will jump right on in and start something with an International Patriotic theme. Your country? or perhaps you'd like to do a Union Jack? (I read your blog!) If that is of interest, please let me know, as I have been saving some patterns for such, so I can do one ... sometime!

AnnaQuilts ... I went back to add this to my earlier post to you, but after I typed the messages, the edit time had expired. Look forward to seeing what you decide to do! I think it was because I surfed away for a bit to check on the Marshall Islands! Have you been there? Looks like a bit of Paradise! :)

I am working on several more. One I am quilting right now and another piecing. They are both red, white, and blue quilts. They are on the back burner because of a very large wedding quilt I am quilting and some swap obligations. I hope to work on the patriotic quilts this summer.

Yes, I have been there and it is beautiful but there is also poverty and hardship for many of the people living there.

I am glad this thread was started and I enjoy looking at everyones patriotic quilts.

Yes, all too sadly, many of the paradise places are not so much a paradise for the locals. And they must look towards the visitors to help them survive.

gardnergal970 - barley and leek soup. Sounds yummy. Please PM me the recipe as I have 6 days off starting tomorrow and leeks waiting in the fridge to be used. Sorry, Muv, but barley leek soup trumps mashed potatoes.

MimiBug123 - can't wait to see what you come up with. So glad you found the fabric.

Annaquilts - hope you can join us with a new project. You do lovely work.

MissCountryGirl - glad you popped over for a visit. I hope we inspire you to join us. We will provide all sorts of encouragement, I promise. If you decide not to join, please feel free to drop by and comment. After all, we need encouragement, too, especially those of us who have barely started our projects (like the two thread starters). :)

Work in progress USA patriotic

5 Attachment(s)
An US Marine large walhanging for my cousin's son who served in Iraq.
Large twin US Army.
Pattern in progress of piecing. It looked like an easy pattern but odly enough I find it challenging to keep track of the colors and pieces and it has been slow go. I do like the results. I cut all the pieces and made only a couple of completed blocks sofar. I have a hard time coming up with a system so I can chain piece or some kind of faster organized way.

Annaquilts - that looks like it is going to be really nice. We are here to encourage you. Hopefully someone can provide you with piecing tips, too. So far, it looks great.

I have a feeling this thread is going to continue well past July 1 and that is fine by me. After all, you should be patriotic all year long, not just one day per year. :)

It is indeed a lovely pattern ... and is going to make for one beautiful quilt!

As to how to speed up the piecing, I am thinking you have probably experimented in all the ways possible, but here's my insights from what I see. The pattern is basically one block made in two colourways, and it take four to complete a star, with more stars started in the corner. Could you assembly line quilt the similar parts of each block (eg. all the 4 patches). Then assembly line all the components you ahve made into the blocks?

We'll be here to cheer you on ... and watch this quilt come together!

I happened upon this thread just the other day, thanks to Jen-jenniky(?)--thanks Jen. Love the patriotic fabrics you are using for the mystery quilt and for this one!!

Anyway I've been trying to catch up on what everyone's been chatting about--seems like a really fun and encouraging group!! I've got a patriotic quilt that i have been working on for quite awhile and this group may provide just the encouragement I need to finally finish it!! (I'd post a couple pics, but they are on our home computer and I'm away from home now, traveling to northern California to Fort Bragg to camp with our BFF's).

Love all the pictures of the patriotic quilts everyone has or is making!!
