Looking good SurferGirl.... Isn't it nice to know that as you put your blocks together, your quilt is getting closer and closer to being finished? And it's fun to see the back sides too. Love the nice contrast of your connecting strips.

I've been side-lined with a broken hot water tank (yuck) and had to empty a lot of my cutting room so nothing gets wet. Luckily my sewing machine is in a different room. Then today, I'm dealing with a major muscle spasm in my shoulder area from my fibro....

Ronda and JeanieG, Actually this QAYG project is a reversible holiday table topper. :)

Step #4 I cut two front sashings 5 inches wide by the center length of my squares. I then cut a third longer sashing strip 5 inches wide by 20 inches long. (You will need to adjust these measurements to fit your squares. Im using 9" Squares for my project.

Step #5 I then cut my back sashing pieces 9 inches wide by the center length of my squares. I then cut a third longer back sashing strip 9 inches wide by 20 inches long. (You will need to adjust these measurements to fit your squares.

The Christmas blue backside sashing is then folded and ironed in half as we did in the first project/ :thumbup: Click on my blog link in my signature to find the first project tutorial to refer back to. :thumbup:

Just as we did with our first QAYG you are going to sew these wider sashing strips to your squares. Pinning them front and back and sewing all three sections together with one seam. The seam is always "1/4 inch with unless stated otherwise.

Now Im ready to sew on the opposite blocks to the top sashing.

Before sewing them together I trimmed and squared end edges.

Then I went to the sewing machine and sewed right sides together the front of the yellow top sashing to the right side of the halloween top material.

I then turned it over and laid the flap down making sure that the edge of the flap lined up with the front seam.

Once I am sure my sashing lines up accurately. I then measured the width from the edge of one seam of batting to the opposite.
In this case it turned out to be an even 4 inches.

I cut a 4 x 9 1/4 piece of batting giving my self a little more than necessary on the length to be trimmed later.

Laying the batting in the sashing canal. I make sure there is no bunching of the batting. It needs to lay nicely in as if it were a puzzle piece.

I then take large basting stitches down both sides to hold the batting from sliding.

Now I place a very thin line of glue on the edge of my material to hold my flap in place.

I seem to have not taken a picture sewing the seam. I used my open foot so that I could clearly see where
I was sewing and I sewed from the front down the ditch line.

When I turned it over I had a perfect machine seam.. :thumbup: Ah Ha... I must of done it right. :)

With Blue as my top thread and Yellow in the Bobbin, I did a large meander around the poinsettia shapes on the bottom sashing. I made sure I didnt come to close or connect with the side seams.

Once finshed I flip it over to admire the resulting design on the front sashing.

I will be using the previous steps to attach these two units together tomorrow with a long piece of vertical sashing. Now Im going to try and write out the mathematical formula I used to figure my sashing on paper. So I can answer JeanieG's question. :) BBL
