DD bought me one & I had the same problem until I asked her how she kept hers from falling out & she said she just mashed the butter down firmly, did that & problem solved.

I love mine , i only use real butter I buy at the Amish store . With this crock I never have had the real butter spoil and it is always ready to spread !
