i agree w you both dodie & farmquilter. if we could trust the FDA we wouldn't be seeing all those commercials for lawsuits aganst companies for drugs that the FDA approved & allowed to be prescribed. we wouldn't have people getting sick buying & eating tainted meats & vegies. i cook fr scratch. always have. and i can eat beans morning noon & night every day of every season. and frequently have much to my hubbys dismay ) ..love beans!!

And don't forget the FDA protected U.S. mothers from the horrors of thalidomide, unlike in the U.K.

Rural areas have a choice on fresh produce they plant and grow...in most cities, dwellers do not have that choice...therefore we retired back to the rural area, grow our own food...garden and orchard and chickens, and our health has greatly improved. I think the GMOd food is a problem, but without a label how do you really know? Yes, I have eaten beans my whole lifetime.
Not only has the pyramid of foods changed, many of their 'research' has changed also. Eggs are now good for you, and butter is the 'best' thing to eat now. Do your homework to decide for yourself what is good for your self and the ones you love. We are all 'unique' individuals and one 'size' does not fit all....not all food items will agree with our bodies.

these are good support comments for the right of the FDA to continue to be allowed to exist and continue to be supported by feds via use of our tax dollars. i remember very well the thalidomide years. but in recent years, i really don't think the FDA is doing all that well at earning their keep.

Had a nutritionist tell me it was not good for me to eat as many beans/peas as I do because of methane gas created by the body as a by product. Can be hazardous for health. I told him yes and that is why they don't allow smoking in elevators any more. Beans are good fiber for the body. Many good and healthy recipes out there. As we all know everything should be done in moderation.

Beans never killed anyone! There is a difference between a bean that has a toxin when raw, and a bean that has none when cooked! There is also some type of illness that you can get from eating too many fava beans..it's called favism..but you need to have a genetic issue with them and it's rare. We need to worry about the real dangers..like the pesticides, herbicides and antibiotics in out food...now that's scary!
