I was reading a short story tonite and there was a reference to low country boil.

My habit is to have the PC on so I can go to Google for foods, plants and customs that are new to me.

I looked up the recipes -- and I want to try it. What do you do with the broth that is made?? is it a clear soup or do you drain it and toss it out??

At the crawfish boils I have been to the water is thrown out. It is seasoned water to boil the cf and veg. in.

Yep, the spiced water is to flavor the ingredients and that's about it.

Low country boil is similar to crawfish boil. I would like to know a way to use the broth again. So as of now I toss the broth.
I can come eat when you fix the boil.

Dang! My mouth's waterin' just thinkin' about it! Think I'll make it tomorrow. We always called it "frogmore stew" And the water goes on the compost.

I learned this in New Orleans - when making potato salad, boil the potatoes in this or crab boil. Gives a little zing and it tastes great.

Are there any types that don't have shellfish (I'm allergic)? It looks really yummy though.

The recipe I use has new potatoes, kielbasa sausage, corn on the cob and shrimp. I sometimes leave the kielbasa out and add crab legs. (My DD & SIL don't eat meat) but I suppose you could leave out the shrimp. At this time of the morning I don't have any bright ideas about a non-shellfish substitute.
