I'm looking for some great recipes to try out this holiday season using sweet potatoes/Yams.
Something more than the baked with marshmallows on top.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Kirsten

I'm kinda lazy -- I put the yams from the can, drained, in a casserole dish. I cut the big ones up into smaller pieces. I dot it with butter, then sprinkle brown sugar on it, and heat. When it's heated thru, I put miniature marshmallows on it, and put it under the broiler till they're puffy and brown. Never fails to please my family.

I make sweet potatoes just like I would do regular mashed potatoes:

Peel fresh ones.
Cut into cubes
Boil until soft.
Throw 'em in the kitchenaid with:
Milk (or heavy cream...YUM!)
Butter
Salt
Pepper
A PINCH of brown sugar. PINCH!!!

I just bake them in the oven like a regular potatoe, then add things like applesauce, and brown sugar when they are done.

Well, it's looking like using sweet potatoes/yams is pretty boring....
Thanks to all who posted recipes...guess I'll go searching.

This one is always a huge hit with guests:

BOURBON Mashed Sweet Potatoes

2 lb sweet potatoes
1/4 cup half & half or heavy cream
3 TBSP Jim Beam Bourbon Whiskey
1/2 stick butter
1 and 1/2 TBSP light brown sugar
1/2 tsp Kosher salt
1/4 tsp fresh ground black pepper

Microwave or bake the sweet potatoes until soft. Cool enough to handle and remove peels. Add remaining ingredients and combine with electric mixer until smooth. serves 4 - 6. Can make ahead and microwave when ready to serve

My husband started making this Smashed Sweet Potato recipe and it is awesome. Definitely different from the normal and doesn't need to be served with a turkey.
