According to http://www.singerco.com/support/serial_numbers.html, your FW's serial number was released for production September 16, 1946. Also, it was manufactured in the Elizabethport, NJ factory, so I'm not sure where the conversion comes in, unless someone took it to England and had it converted to 220, then returned to the US and had it converted back to 110.

Thank you so much for this info! The machine was given to me when I lived in England and now it lives here in Ireland! I suppose someone took it over from the Us to the UK - but I wonder who and why???????........

Maybe someone whose husband was in the U.S. military was stationed in England and took it over with them, but then gave it away before returning when their tour of duty was over.

My sister (who is with the American Red Cross) got a sewing machine from a soldier who was returnng to the U.S. when she was in Iraq. Before she left Iraq, she sent it to my daughter, who was stationed in Okinawa. When my daughter left Okinawa, she gave the machine to another female Marine. Who knows where it is now.

You have a FW expert in England. See http://www.singer-featherweight.com/index.html

If you go on line to Singer.com , they can give you the info as to when and where your machine was made. It may take a few days befor you get a reply, and they may be able to help you with other questions. :-)

Congrats! I have the Featherweight that I learned to sew on- from my mother- she reluctantly handed it over after making me promise to keep it in the family- what a crazy concern as I now have opened a long arm quilting studio and retreat in the downtown of our small rural NE Iowa town. Here is a great website for the shop I was recommended to- she treats each unit as an individual and cares for it and offers great suggestions. I realize you are in Ireland....www.quiltersportable.com or [email protected]. Good luck. Deb
