Neat! My husband is also a Civil War nut. What a thoughtful gift.

Wonderful quilt, beautifully done.

It seems as though there is a lot of controversy over the URR quilts. Some say its factual, some say it was a ploy by pattern makers to create business. Personally, and imho, I take the middle ground. There are probably "enhanced" histories of these quilts, fictional but based on historic fact, again imho. Regardless, based in fact or not, both sides of this controversy make for a fascinating read.

Here's a site if you'd like to take a look (thia were shared with me by Loretta who warned not to take all at face value  )

(There are quite a few web sites dealing with the history fact or fiction of URR quilts if you google URR quilts you'll find them.)

a couple other websites with VERY interesting quilt history information (including civil war quilts):

Great Quilt Marcia!! I am doing the URR too. Not beacause I believe the story but because I love the Civil War era fabrics and it is a neat quilt.

Lisa, thank you for the information. I agree with you about taking the middle ground-and it is a fascinating read. I have all of Barbara Brackman's books including "Facts and Fabrications: Unraveling the History of Quilts and Slavery"

My last question about the URR quilt-is everyone doing a specific pattern? Or different patterns? Is there a posting I should read to find out more about it? I seem to have too many questions!!

Thanks, Loretta. Count me in. I already have ideas swimming in my head. Marcia
