Do I want a Singer 301? I have been thinking of a electric 201 or 301 for quilting only. I would have DH built it into a table. Is a 301 long bed with feet and manual good? It looks nice online. He read some where the machine is a bit light for actual quilting and might move during quilting. anyone use the 301 for doing actual quilting? should I look at a 201?

I have a 201 and a 301 short bed. My 201 is in a student cabinet and my 301 sits on top of the sewing table when I use it. Both do well for piecing but I prefer my 301 for free motion quilting as I don't get as many bird's nests or skipped stitches on it. OTH the throat space is a little bit more cramped.

Just want to share one of the latest additions to our family of machines. We found her in an antique shop a couple of weeks ago. Hubby is on vacation this week and we ventured back to the antique shop this morning and she was still there.
We do not know how to date her, although one of the plates does have patent dates on it. The first one is May 16, 1863 and the last one is May 06, 1876.
Hubby found what we believe is the serial # under the front plate stamped into the base. It is 352736.
Does anyone know how to date this machine?

Hi everyone!
I need a litle help. I am in rural Ohio visiting my inlaws. Phone service is spotty at best. I bought a machine and need someone to date it for me.
It is a singer. The serial number I found is. B1299706. It is in great shape. It appears that a motor was added at some time. The motor on it says phaff. It was in a comtempory cabinet. Since I was traveling just bought the machine.
Only paid $25 for it. I took a picture with my phone. Just don't know how to upload a pix from my phone. No computer , just traveling with my phone. So any info would be great.

Just checked the serial # and she is a model 66 and her production date is September 1, 1905.
