I'm not much of a mechanic but when the throat plate is on it's probably keeping something from moving underneath. have you tried reseating the bobbin case?

Could the throat plate be somehow hanging up the feed dogs?

found this in Maryland. If someone is close, it is quite a good deal. The guy wouldn't ship :(

There could possibly be thread wrapped BEHIND the bobbin case. That's the next thing I would check.
