At least a yard each, but if it is really nice and unique then 2 or more yards.

I've found thin but strong fabric is really good for small quilts for little guys in this Texas heat with conservative air conditioning. Have made lots of those! It's the heavy threaded loose weaves I don't care for.

I usually buy 2 to 3 yards. If I think I may want to use it as a backing and the quality and price is really good, I will sometimes buy 8 to 9 yards, enough for a queen or king size; or if it is a smaller quilt, it will be enough to use it in the quilt as well as for the backing. Just yesterday I had this dilemma when I ran across some beautiful red floral fabric I loved at Hobby Lobby. It was on sale, but not on clearance, so I couldn't buy as much. I bought 3 yards of the main fabric and 2 yards of the coordinating one.

My rule of thumb is usually 3 yds of each, especially at those prices You will use it for something

I have ordered also with the $2.96 a yard sale and I bout 3, 4 and 5 yards pieces.and I was thrilled with it.

My choices were soft and I used most of them for backings....

I will definitely go back for more.

Maybe I was the lucky one but I really haven't been disappointed by anything I purchased from them.

    I buy 3 yards when I don't have a project in mind.

The local lady in town that sells fabric just loves to see me come in! She loves the fact that I'm not going to buy 1/2 yard or less, but most often 2 or 3 yards of each! The last time she got in a new shipment she called me to let me know it was in --- what incredible service!

I buy 3 yards so that way it can be used for possible borders too. The only exception is if I find fabric wide enough for backing then 4 yards. If I find white cotton then I buy the entire bolt if I have that much cash on me or If I have my credit card.
