I'm so glad you posted this. I love your mother's block and, of course, yours is so beautiful. I would love to try this. The colors are so much more intense than I have seen with crayons. Please post any other things you do. You are inspiring me.

How inspiring! And handy -- I used a batik I got from a friend and didn't pre-wash it because I assumed she'd already done that. Bad mistake. (You know what they say about "assume"!) I'm afraid it will bleed -- so now I hope I can draw on a flower here and there to hide it!

Your lily is beautiful. I've not heard of this but it will be perfect for my granddaughter to try. I might try it myself. Thanks for sharing.

I'm still new at using this technique and new at making art quilts. I can learn from others who are more experienced.

I bought the pencils from Michaels, but the selection was limited. I was only able to get 12 of the Inktense pencils and would like a larger box. Dick Blick would be the place for more choice. I really like the Derwent Inktense pencils for vibrant color. The ink is also permanent after using the gel. I am combining both watercolor and Inktense on the same project. I haven't used fabric medium for setting the watercolor. I have a bottle, so I will try it.

I have heard that any colored pencil will work, but the ordinary ones I tried weren't as good as the Derwent. There are probably other brands that work, too. I just haven't tried any.

You can get the aloe vera gel (clear, no perfume) from Walmart.

I did prewash the muslin to remove the sizing and chemicals, so there is no hindrance to the color going into the fibers.

I saw this at a quilt show last ear and loved it. She used water I have never heard of using aloe vera gel. That is on my list of things to try.

I haven't heard a standard name used for this technique. It is another way of applying color to a quilt.

How about...the easiest way to applique or colored pencil applique?
