As someone said...its "right" to do what you desire....its your quilt.
However that said....I put so much work into making my seams match, making sure the fabric is quality, color is right etc..to take a shortcut on the binding just doesnt work for me.
Besides....I love hand sewing the binding...its like the frosting on the cake.
Personal preference is key.
