I still have the ripper part of the very first one I bought when the dinosaurs walked with me to school, but I broke the handle and the cover of it! It really looks silly, but the ripper is still the sharpest one I have. There's enough handle to hold it, but not as comfortable as before.

I broke my favorite seam ripper trying to cut the threads wrapped around the beater bar on my sweeper :(

Like others, broken so many, no way to guess just how many...usually the little ball breaks first.

The point of the ripper is to push under the stitch..then you are supposed to slide the ripper all the way, as the cutter is the curved inner section... and I always break the tips when I try to yank the threads with the tip to break a thread..using it the wrong way....usually when I'm in a hurry.

I have broken 2 seam rippers in the last 6 months. Didn't harm the fabric. Thought I was just hard on seam rippers, but after reading this post, I guess I'm not alone! I think the next time I buy seam rippers, which will be soon because I'm down to my last one, I'll buy them by the half-dozen!

I've broken them, had the metal fall out of the handle, and ran one over with my sewing chair which broke the metal part in half!

The only time I break my ripper is when I am trying to use it as a screwdriver.
