Feel for you. I can't cook and sew either. My sewing studio and kitchen are next to each other too. Sometimes I can manage if I use a timer.

A friend did this in her brand new home. She always swore she was no cook and thereafter used this to prove her point!
Years ago, our family went to the movies on a whim only to return to a haze of smoke in and around the kitchen. I had left tomatoes cooking fortunately on low. could have been really bad.

Many years ago when I was still living with my parents I was on a diet and had eggs boiling on the stove. I, too, walked away and we heard them burst later! Boy, was my Mom mad at me. I learned my lesson and didn't do that again. But.....many years later I left some hummingbird syrup on the stove I was making and then got interested in a movie on TV. The fire alarm went off and I went rushing into the kitchen to see fire coming out of the pan!!! I now use timers and take them with me when I leave the kitchen to make sure I know when things are done!

I too have exploded eggs on my glass top stove, and have burnt many things because I sat down for a, " minute," to do something ( I have learned to set a timer before I walk off:) but nothing has ever cracked my glass top stove! I am thinking yours must have been defective? I would check online to see if there have been any recalls on your model etc.

So sorry about your stove. I have a glass top stove and would hate to hurt it. Hope you get everyhing fixed and your quilt turns out ok.

Oh my! I have not done this exact thing but have boiled milk over the pan to make a nice mess. Now, I do not allow myself to walk away because I never remember to come back until too late or like others, I set a timer and carry it with me. (Those glass top stoves have pros and cons but I don't think I would ever buy one again. Yes, it will be expensive to replace ... sorry for your loss!) Once I was filling our horse trough at around 7:00pm. The next morning my DH came in after going to the barn and asked when I had turned the water on. I went running too. At least the well did not go dry ... we did have a great well in that house ... but the pasture was awash in water and took a few days to dry out.

I have done this before (although it didn't break my stove), but when I finally went back to the eggs, they were all gone. it was really strange, cuz' I never did find egg pieces anywhere... just a horrible smell thru the whole upstairs.. still wonder where the egg bits went????

Guilty also Learned a lesson now when I put something on stove or oven I put timer on in case I get involved and forget it is cooking.

I've boiled eggs dry before but not to the extent you did. I'm so sorry that your stove is damaged.

I must admit though that is why I never go to my sewing room when i'm cooking something that has a short cook time .
