I've done both but when I do machine I like to sew the binding to the back and fold it over to the front for the final machine sewing. It looks neater to me - not that any of my sewing is all that neat.

Machine stitch to the front, hand stitch to the back. Guess I'm a traditionalist that way. I like the look of no stitching at all showing on the binding.

I like the looks of machine sewing to the front and hand sewing the back. I also like to do the hand sewing. Time to relax and enjoy.

I stitch my binding to the front and turn it to the back. Then I hand sew it down. I enjoy hand sewing, it is very relaxing to me.

Stitch front by machine then flip to the back to sew by hand...and I do enjoy that sewing by hand.

I only do hand sewing on the binding. No where else.

I finished up 9 quilts today--so yes, I machine bound them all. My shoulders are tired and I'm a bit sore from that much machine work but I'm glad to be done. One was a baby quilt, one was a lap quilt size, but the others were twin/full sized quilts.

Also, I'm posting this at 10:38 pm our time... so I've had all day.

I don't sew anything by hand...if I can get away with it!....I make quilts to be used and loved, so I like the extra strength of machine sewn bindings
