I have a 6600 and recently bought the 7700. I love them both. The 7700 is not sensitive, it is a wonderful machine. They are NOT discontinued, NOT, NOT, NOT!! I wish people would stop with these tales. The red front has been changed to white, bit it is the same machine with a few less accessories.

The 7700 is in some ways very different from the 6600 and many people did not take the time to learn the new machine, they just complained about it, and blamed the machine when it was user error. MY first bobbin was a mess because I did not read the directions....MY fault. Feet from the 6600 work on the 7700.

I think your dealer is misinformed. The yahoo group that I'm in said it is going to be available only "on the net" for sale directly --not through dealers.

Sorry about the misinformation I got from my dealer about the 7700 being discontinued. You'd think they'd know. I'm going to call or send them an email asking about that.

I'm a very happy owner of a 6600, and I've tried several friends' 7700, it's a great machine too.
I am wondering why the 7700 will only be sold online and not by dealers anymore ? Does anyone know why ?
Seems strange, if the 7700 is a popular machine ... why would dealers not continue to offer it as a mid-price choice ?
What are the big upgrades for the 8900 ? I don't know anyone who's bought one yet -

The sensitive issues that I refer happened when the machine first came out. I did not try the machine myself but am just passing along what I had read (which was on this board). At that time, some people reported the 7700 didn't like going over several thicknesses of fabric. There were a few other recurring problems that several people mentioned but I don't remember what they were. Any time a new machine comes out, there are probably quirks that need to be worked out and new owners always have a learning curve. The best way to determine whether the machine is right for you is to try it out for yourself. The additional 2" throat space would be great!

I own the 7700 as do two of my friends and we haven't had any trouble with our machines. They sew like a dream. The extra throat space is great too. I suggest you go test drive it and have a talk with the dealer. Good Luck!
