I also vote for the Mexican Star quilt pattern. I've got the pattern and read the instructions it's not complicated, only looks it.

If you go to Desertstitchin.com they have a bunch of southwest themed patterns plus some really neat patterns geared towards their Desert Delights jelly rolls. Love the Mexican star too but would worry about getting the colours to match existing furniture etc.

    Try this:
    http://www.swdecoratives.com/

They have patterns. I also like southwest and there are a couple of patterns (forgot the name) available locally.

Somewhere in my travels, I think I saw a quilt pattern adapted from a Navajo rug.

One other thing to consider before you do this is does she like quilts?I would hate to think of you going to all that trouble and it is not something she would appreciate. Also is she picky about what goes on her walls?I am and a friend has given me thing to put on my wall and I put them in the closet till she is coming and then bring them out.Just a couple things to consider.

The Mexican star would be awesome. I have the pattern and fabric all set aside to do one. The pattern is readily available on line or in the quilt stores.

What a nice way to start out a relationship with your family and new family as a married woman, by giving something you've planned and made yourself. Your mother in law is a lucky woman to be acquiring a new daughter in law that thinks that way. My daughter in law is an absolute jewel, she is a really good person & always tries to do the right thing and she makes my son and grandchildren incredibly happy.

I agree go with something simple - no need to add more stress to getting married! The Simply SouthWest pattern on J Michelle Watts site would I think look awesome in the right fabrics.

I think any of the J. Michelle Watts patterns would be great.
