Used HQ 16 - opinions, please!
I'm looking at a used HQ 16 setup and I wondered what owners (or those with experience about them) have any advice. I don't think they make them anymore, and wasn't sure about availability of parts should I need them.
I already have a Grace frame with a Janome 1600. I have also been watching the soon-to-be-launched Block RockIt from Kathyquilts.
I'm not looking for a commercial set-up, just a better way to finish quilts at home instead of renting at the LQS.
thanks in advance!

I had a HQ16 for several years and upgraded to the Avante18. The 16 was great I just wanted more space to quilt at a time. See if you can get a good used one. They are still available just that the 18 and 20 are featured now. If you get one see how much help the owner or store will help you set up and learn the basics. HQ helps with phone calls, I really know that. Just remember it takes lots of practice. If you have the funds the prostitcher is great to have. I love mine.

I bought a used HQ16 which was one of the first models. My repair guy said it is still in great shape and I do about 100 quilts a year. I got it from Craigslist. I have been quilting on it for 5 years.
HQ is not making it any more but said they will have parts for it and it can be serviced at a dealer or sent to them.

My friend has an HQ Avante18 which she loves and has had no problems with it. I believe HQ is a very good product. It was my second choice when I purchased my APQS 2 years ago. If you are using a domestic machine now to quilt on a frame, I truly believe you will be very happy with the HQ16. THey are often for sale as many people who have them are upgrading to a bigger throat size. For what you will pay for a used HQ16, I believe you will be very happy with it and will truly enjoy the added throat space for quilting. If I were you, I would not hesitate a bit about buying a used HQ16. Good luck and keep us posted on your decision.

I had an HQ16 before I upgraded to a larger set up. I sold the whole thing to my friend who quilts on it DAILY. It is just a workhorse...I bought it used and it was a sit down model. I plunked it on my trolley and it quilts there happily to this day!

I purchase a used HQ 16 with prostitcher a year ago. I had it shipped from Montana to New Mexico. It is everything the seller said it was and I love it. With every new quilt, I'm learning something new. Handi Quilter also has forums for any questions you may have.
