What's your KEEP vs GIVE AWAY ratio?

I have given away over 50 quilts and I have 2 that I kept and my hubby has 2 that I made especially for him. Got 2 more that I'm saving for future great grandchildren, as they have a lot of embroidery/handwork on them. So, it sounds like I'm pretty much like the rest of you. We just want to "share our joy of quilting" with others, is what I think.

99.9% give away- it took me 5 years to finally make a quilt for us- we do have 3 now- but that is out of the hundreds I have made over the years. I don't generally make quilts to keep- I make them to give, sell, donate- pass on.

I've never kept one of the many dozens of quilts I've made in my life (and I've been quilting nearly 40 years now) -- pretty sad! Realized it when my friend pointed it out -- so now I have several in process for DH & I. Since we're approaching our 40th anniversary in just a few months, I'm hoping I'll have one done by then to put on the bed, and two done for our new travel trailer.

Sounds like a plan. Right now I'm just working on family and couple friends. They don't know about it so if I don't get to it right away I'm not missing any dates. Oldest DS and DGD have b-days in March same weekend. So trying to get those done.

I don't know how many I've made since I really started quilting--maybe 7 years ago, but I know that I couldn't possibly keep them all--there simply isn't room. As it is, I am probably keeping too many. I started keeping better records in 2013. I finished 104 quilts and 17 of those are labelled on my MS Word file as "mine". I have a file on my computer with a picture of each plus a table with the date, what it is, for whom, anything special, etc. I may end up giving some of them away, as I can't continue to keep that many.

I've only made nine quilts since I started quilting two years ago. Six of those were made as gifts to give away to specific people and I made three just for me. I'm getting ready to start another just for me.

I don't think your plan of keeping one and giving one away will work. There just seems to always be someone, whether it be military, cancer patient, a new grandkid, niece, nephew...and then there is you.

Yep, I'm right there with the rest of y'all...I have a few that are here for us to use, they are some scrappies and swap blocks that I love. But I've made and given away over 200....so yep, definitely give most all of them away!!!

I give away most of my quilts. With 15 grands and 7 greats, there is always someone needing a hug. I did keep my sunflower quilt because it reminds me of home. Also, DH has several. I love making quilts and the smiles they bring.
