I also add a few chopped nuts to the syrup that goes in the pan before the bread. Then when you cut it after baking, invert the pieces onto a plate...looks great! I used Pepperidge Farm Swirl Bread. The six pieces make a perfect layer in a 9" x 13" pan.

I made this a couple weeks ago. Cut the recipe in half for just DH and I and put some sliced apple underneath the bread. It was great, and the leftovers heated up in the microwave very nicely. I'll probably make the full batch for family who will be visiting for Christmas. It won't be our Christmas breakfast, but later in the week.
