Very good-looking machine. I've seen this model badged Toyota, Premier, and probably a few others. I'm guessing it's from the '50s, yet the bobbin winder is a holdover from earlier days. Most of the '50s (and many from the '40s) machines I've seen have the tire-style assembly.

Does the handwheel turn backwards like most of the Whites?

Oh, it is a vibrating shuttle under there? Even weirder. No wonder you had to have one. I will sit with everyone and wait for the zig-zag sample.

Why I Do Not Want a Machine Badged "White"

It's not quite the machine on which I'm not keen,
Or the parable, color, or letter--
Next lifetime I'll know how to let grudges go,
Or at least pick my enemies better.

(I guess it could have been worse. Imagine having a grudge against a guy named Singer and then getting into vintage sewing machines. )

As I recall the one at the get together sewed quite well. They're an interesting design no matter the label. The lady who owns it isn't actually a member here-or wasn't at the time- but saw the postings for the meeting and decided to come down and check it out.

Nothing wrong with a White sewing machine! My first machine my husband got me for $15 when I was 19 was a White. It was a gorgeous shade of blue, I used it for years!

I don't have any White machines but if I found one that was black it would not be a problem I would buy it also.
