I have been longing to do this quilt and the photo shown appears to be of shirting scraps. http://www.quiltville.com/smokeymtstars.shtml

I made one from my late husbands shirts. Most were prints. I bought a lightweight muslin to use for the background in a tan color. I did it in Jenny Doan's Disappearing Pinwheel, Shoefly layout. You can find this pattern and tutorial for the block on Youtube. It also gives you the materials list, but I made my own 10" squares from the shirts instead of purchased layer cake as is instructed.

This one has been on my bucket list for quite some time. You need 7 shirts. I think the trick to success is careful selection and placement of color/value. I've been saving my husband's worn dress shirts, but he seems to wear a lot of blue, so I'm waiting for him to wear out his green one and his purple one.

Here's a memory quilt I made from plaid flannel and some additional flannels I added. I personalized it with the burr oak leaves, and on the back I put a pocket from one of the shirts. I may make some other lap quilts for other family, and if I do I will include a burr oak leaf, and I also want to incorporate some of the buttons.

Thanks for some very nice ideas. I just got out my tote of men's shirts and now I realize I really need some lights. Good thing I'll be going past a really good Goodwill in a couple of days. Love the pineapple quilt but wonder if I really want to do that much work. I really like the smoky mountain pattern too. Decisions, decisions....

When I take shirts and jeans apart, I keep the cuffs and button strips intact. I cut a 1" seam allowance away on both sides. These are great for attaching to a project and being able to open or close as an added feature. Just make sure the buttons are secure. The button holes are already there. Same thing for those pretty blouses and snap on shirts which are great for baby's onesies.
