Quilting with Rulers thread problem

So today I got my order of Superior thread and titanium top stitch needles and got right to work. And the thread still shredded! After checking every nook and cranny that the thread moves through, I finally realized that my throat plate had a burr on it. Changed to my straight stitch plate and SUCCESS! No more shredding! Thanks to all of you for your input.
