I actually haven't gotten my Brother out for a long while -- I had both girls sewing on the older machines with magnetic seam guides. They are very careful to go slow, and so cautious to keep their hands away from the needles.

At Christmas time, I set up one machine with colored thread and one with white or neutral colored thread, so I did not have to keep rethreading. That worked out really well. You definitely need a backup machine for times of trouble!

I invite friends over to sew and set up my spare machines for them so they don't have to lug their machines to my house.

I think you should put the other in the closet for company for the Singer :) ;)

I often wish I had more than one machine, just for the simple ability to have more than one color thread at a time! I would love it if I could have my white thread one always going then a seperate one for the current color. I really hate changing the thread out!

A magnetic seam guide is just a small piece that fits on your machine. It sits up about an inch and you can place it on the measurememt mark so you can sew a straight seam . I've seen several but they warn you not to use them with computerized machines. Since I've gotten my FW and 14-91, they have the guide that screws on.

I also have three machines, 2 Janomes and a Singer. When my Janome 6600 died last month, I was grateful for the backup machines. I have ordered a Husqvarna Sapphire 875, and I will send my Janome 6600 out to see if it is fixable. But, I keep the extra machines for many reasons. I let my DGDs use one Janome, when a couple of friends come over they have the choice of using my other machines and third, when my DH thinks he wants to sew something...he gets the Singer. You can never have too many machines.
