LOL!!! Love the humor! It offsets the emotional turmoil I was feeling when this all started! Actually, feel much better now. I will rewash the fabric and use as intended. Will just make sure my pattern doesn't use large pieces...and it should all be okay. *sigh* Thank you all for your words of wisdom...and humor! ;-)

Did you put it in the washer folded? I use retayne all the time and never experienced anything like this. I think it is the fabric, but I doubt if you would have much luck returning it.

I have been a mgr at hancock's, joanns, and a couple of indep. shops and I can tell you that NO store I ever worked at would do a refund on washed fabric...most don't refund on cut yardages at all!
This is very true. The fabric company is not going to refund the shop, either. I'm in agreement with the others, once you start piecing the quilt, it will appear as if it was a mottled fabric in the first place. If you have a front-loading machine rather than a top-load, the Retayne would not work correctly. It would be released in spurts.....

I would use the fabric as is & not worry about it. For certain, do NOT tell the recipient that the fabric mottled in washing - that would only make them look at it as though it has a flaw. Instead, give it w/ the idea this is supposed to look as it does, no apologies needed. It will be fine.
BTW, Please post pic when it is finished.

I agree with Leiladylei54. I would use the fabric. I don't think it will be noticeable when used in the quilt, and if it is, I don't think it will be obvious enough to anyone else to cause a problem.

I would wash it once more, hot water. If it's still mottled, I'd just make sure that the pattern chosen does not have large pieces. If you cut it up a lot, you won't notice it.
