301A is the one I could never part with.... DD recently found one so now we both have one

my 1630 and 55 are great for everything and my serger gets used weekly if not daily, but if had to choose which to grab on the way out of the house in an earthquake/fire/split.......it would be the 301A

I have:
3- 301A Singer /tan short bed/tan long bed -black shortbed
1 - Sears Kenmore Vintage
1- Green Elna Supermatic
1- 401A Singer in the sewing cabinet
1- 15-91 Singer in the sewing cabinet and they are ALL great machines.
My pick would be the 301A Long bed Tan Singer due to it's performance, comfort, compact and portability.

Janome 6500 or one of its younger siblings Janome 7700 and Horizon.

The 15-91 will give you a beautiful stitch for FMQ and piecing (still love my 301s but wanted a bigger heavier machine with the 15-91)..... No kidding..... It's a low-shank and the bobbin is bigger; but still it will use up the thread either way. Purchase the low-shank metal foot from Sewclassics and practice a couple of swatches with your 15-91; you can make any design as big or small with this machine.
I bought my 15-91 from Ebay last month and have FMQ with it on a few projects and have no problems with it.
The feed dogs drop down on it and you don't have to hassel to much with the tension either; go fast...the faster you go, the better the stitching. Mine is in the cabinet with the knee lever/pedal and you don't need a bunch of fancy shmancy equipment for FMQ with your 15-91 Singer (IMHO) :-) all you need is the darning foot/FMQ foot and your creativity.

I'm happy to see so many love their 15-91's! I ran across one at a Goodwill and just couldn't pass her up. She needed all new electrical cords, a new foot pedal, and a couple of parts, she didn't even have any feet...poor little thing! I finally have everything I need, I think, and am just waiting for my DH to get her up and running for me....I CAN'T WAIT! I'm sure once I put her to work, she'll be my first choice to keep!

cctx, I have a short shank quilting foot that I bought for my Elna but that girl can't quilt. At least I didn't waste my money. I will try the 15 on a table runner, but the 301 is set better physically for larger things. I can't sew on a table top machine - just me, I know. The one I really want to try is the Universal but I need to pick up some long shank accessories. So the 301 will be doing the quilt that will be ready by tomorrow.

If you held a gun to my head and asked that question, it would be the Jame 7700 Horizon, but like the others, it would be hard to choose from my other pet sewing machines.

I sure do love my 201! I don't know if I could part with my other treasures, though.

I've had my Janome Memorycraft 9000 for over 13 years now. Is it vintage yet? I love it, though.
