I have just used the L.P. Sharp company to recycle some blades and they operate very efficiently . I'll
use them again soon as I have a back load of used blades. I got new ones but sent my used one to
    them.

Well this is a good idea. I've just been putting them in a plastic holder that 5 blades came in. I've written "used" on it w/ a Sharpie marker. When that holder is full, I guess I'll put them in the recycling, instead of throwing them in the garbage.

Many communities have special dates set to collect old appliances and computers and other electronic equipment. LP Sharp does not resharpen your blades and return them to you. They send you brand new replacement blades for really cheap (for instance 45mm Olfa for $3, no shipping charge). I do not know what they do with your dull blades but I do know they send you brand new replacements. I know because I have used them and have received my new replacement blades in their original unopened packages. I love using them because not only do I get replacement blades for a really good price but I am able to recycle the used ones instead of throwing them away.

I have been sending my old blades off to L.P. Sharp since 1992, great service and fast turn around time too. They used to resharpen your old blades when they first started the business and now you're getting brand new blades, either generic or Olfa; with a 5 blade minimum.
Much cheaper than buying them at the store.

I have used this company a number of times and have been very happy with the sharpened blades. Service was prompt.

I use them until they are no longer making clean cuts, then I take them out and put them in an empty can or box in the trash can. No big deal.

I use the pecking order system too, first for fabric, then batting and paper. If they have to be dissposed I wrap them and put them in a closed container that is headed for the trash already.
