I keep an empty plastic container that they came in for bad blades. It's marked "Old" on the outside.
If you don't have one, or some other container to put it in, you can always wrap up a bad blade in duct tape before tossing it. Sometimes I put sharp things (broken glass, etc.) into milk cartons.

I use am empty plastic medicine bottle with the "child proof" cap. All used blades, bent pins/needles, broken needles, etc go into it. When it is full I will toss it. It even contains a broken knife blade found in the yard when I was mowing one day.

I put them in a pill bottle that I get from the pharmacy with my prescriptions. It work great. Use a separate one for bad pins and needles too. Would like to recycle these items but the recycle business doesn't want the pill bottles so as of now I put them in the garbage. I did buy one of the sharpener stones that you twist to sharpen the blades. You really have to work at it for a while but they do work.

I put my old and used blades in the plastic container that my new blades come in. When full I do put it in the trash and I have perscription bottles that I have removed labels and put my broken and bent needles in and throw them away in that.

I put my old blades in an empty blade pack and put them on the free table at guild. I change blades at first skip and there a few members that will take my old blades and use them until they won't cut butter. I started saving them when I tossed a blade at sew day and one of the members said it wasn't bad enough to toss. She took it.

I have a jar candle that I often burn while sewing. The spent blades and needles and pins are dropped in there. As the wax melts, they sink in and they are safely encased. I am on my second jar at home. At camp I have the jar in the sunny window and the wax is often soft enough to just press the things into it. Just make sure extinguish the flame before you leave the room!
