I don't know where I went wrong??

OK, back to your question about quilting it! You can use the 505, or you can pin it with safety pins. You remove the pins as you quilt. Imagine your little quilt in 4 sections, start in the middle (be sure your "darning foot" is on and your feed dogs down or covered) and make "puzzle pieces". They don't have to be perfect. You can do something different in each section, or just practice the meandering. Wearing some garden gloves with the little rubber nubs will help you to control the fabric as you move it. When you finish, put your button or applique in the center and hang it somewhere. It's too pretty to throw away!

It looks perfect to me... I like the drive-by at 20 mph. And remember only God is perfect, the rest of us just have to muddle through. For a new quilter this looks pretty darn good to me. I've been at this for decades and I still have imperfect seams, even with a 1/4 in foot.

Sometimes when I quilt a star quilt I will do lines in the triangle and corner squares. I start at the inner point and make a half circle like the sun on the horizon and then stitch outward, kind of like the star is radiating rays of light. It easy to do by machine using the walking foot. You will have to pin plus using the 501 spray, because most of that quilting will be on the bias.

Careful pinning when joining the seams doesn't always guarantee a perfect center. I agree, it isn't that noticible. I bet once you get it quilted it won't be so noticible to you and you'll fall in love with it! The colors are very pretty and the wall hanging is beautiful!
