From years of working with clients on color selections for their homes, I am not surprised when someone says they think a color or pattern is ugly, most times there is an unpleasant association in the past, or a real aversion to a color, or curvy vs geometric. I once had a client who hated blue so much that when the only mattress ticking for the matress quality she wanted only came in blue, she bought quilted white covers to completely cover them, even though they wouldn't seen except when changing bed linens. To each his own and smile! :-D

one thing i have found out by looking at others quilts is try looking at a fabric in smaller pieces rather than large some of the ugliest fabric (to me anyways) turn out to make the most beautiful quilts sometimes they just change the way they look in a quilt with other fabrics

Beauty is DEFINITELY in the eye of the beholder AND to each is own. If you like it, make it for yourself because you have to live with it :)

I love that dead cat fabric! I'm usually drawn to Robert Kaufman fabrics. I like most of their designs.

I never met a fabric I didn't like. My sister and I have totally different tastes, but when I make something for her she always loves it.

I know a quilter who collects others' "ugly" fabric and make fantastic quilts out of it. As the saying goes, "Beauty is in the eye of the beholder."

Can I ask, how did the ugly fabric swap work...any rules about amount of fabric, etc? Sounds like it would be fun. I'd love to give it a try at the QS where I work. Thanks!
