A good deal on what looks like a 401A. Is the desk a Singer item?

Rodney, that desk is more typical of Pfaff, especially with the hole to get at the bobbin case.

I've got one that is the same chair/table but does not have the two sets of side drawers, so it's very compact.

Singer and Pfaff are interchangeable in the cabinets. You may have to take out or put in a lift, but the hinges line up and work with either.

I didn't think Singer made a chair/desk combo like that but I'm a long way away from knowing everything there is to know about sewing machines.
    Thanks Cathy.

Oh I'm just going to cry.

Doctors have a motto of "First, do no harm." People should take that concept to heart when dealing with sewing machines, cabinets, and "good, old stuff" in general. (Just my not-so-humble opinion!)

And do we really want cedar-infused baked goods?

To avoid accidentally parting out good machines...
My clever friend Allison puts on different color spools of thread on her machines to show which ones need work, which ones do work and which ones she may be willing to part with!

This table confuses me... why would I want all that space on the right? Assemble wrong maybe?

It almost looks like a table you put together yourself and it was done wrong.

That's my guess. They put it together wrong.
