I save mine, but oh, it will take me forever to have enough selvages to make anything! And to think y'all are throwing them away.

Those selvage chickies are too cute.

After reading this thread I can't decide. I started saving them once, then threw them away. Do you have to cut them larger than normal if you plan to save and use them???? I usually cut as close to the selvage as possible.

I'd been saving them for ages, but finally gave them away. Soon afterwards, I saw a cushion cover made of selvages. Darn, that would have been perfect for my sewing stool. Oh, well, I have enough projects to work on for the rest of my life. My stool doesn't need to be covered by selvages. :(

No I don't save selvedges, but a few years ago a family from Florida stopped by my store, in the middle of BC, and wanted the strings that I have when cutting fat 1/4's, they were coming back in a couple of years and I said I would save them---long story--they haven't returned and I have a bag full of them.

Also, have you noticed that some companies are having wider selvedges just for the collectors. lol

I love using them. I learned from experience that cutting them 1 1/4 inches works well for me. That doesn't cut too much off the fabric but still gives you a usable piece. Here is a pic of the sweatshirt jacket I made and I have all the blocks done for a quilt. Just haven't gotten it quilted yet as I plan to do it QAYG. Anyone who doesn't want them, I will be glad to pay your postage. Just PM me. :-)
