In order for me to use the start/stop button my foot pedal has to be
unplugged from machine.
That's how my Baby Lock Elizabeth works.

You can set the speed so that it doesn't run away with you. It works great.

With the Viking machines you can do this--not sure about other makes of machine.

I have the Viking Ruby and the Designer 1 and it works with both machines. I also set my speed on medium.--these are tips from my Viking dealer

I have that machine too and love that feature. I didn't discover it for awhile and didn't like moving my hands from the fabric to push the button. And half the time I pressed the wrong button. Tapping the foot pedal to stop is so much better!

Am I just dense, or is it not just as easy to take your foot off the pedal to stop? My Juki stops in the 'needle down' position.

My Janome 6600 doesn't have the foot pedal attached to use cruise control. I have been practicing FMQ enough that I now have conquered that steady speed & don't need to cruise.

Thanks for this info. I have the stop/start feature but I'm always afraid to use if for fear I'll continue sewing as I try to stop it. Let's just say I'm not well coordinated :-(
