toothbrush rugs - made from fabric scraps

Hi - I was just wondering if anyone here makes these? This would be a great project while traveling in the RV, I am just not sure if I should order the tool used or make one? If you do these - what do you use? If you're not sure what I am talking about, here is a link to the site:

She is featured in this video, but it is a short snip the other sites just don't do it the same way. If you lose the place it is under shows and fairs category under the internaional quilt festival video. Looks interesting..

Mother use to look for tuff fabric. Such as work clothes and we made rugs from them. I liked it when we use to take the string from hay bales and braid them and sew them in an oval for outdoor rugs to wipe the evidences of the milking barn off our shoes. I think it would be another neat project for cold winter nights. We did not have TV in the 50's and part of the 60's so we found things to do and it always had to be something "productively useful." That was my mom's reference.

They are really fun to make and yes I did use the tool they said to use. You can use a cut toothbrush if it has a hole in the end or even a large safety pin with a hole. Try it. - just remember to not make your stitches too tight so it lays flat.
