I have a Brother Innovis 4000D, sewing/embroidering machine. It usually works beautifully but, even when it was new, sometimes the foot pedal just stopped working. Then I would press it again and it would work. It would keep doing this. There is no problem running it without the foot pedal. When it was still under warrentee, the dealer gave me a new pedal which solved the problem for a while, but about a year later it started again. The dealer couldn't find anything wrong with it when I took it for yearly maintenance, and it's been almost a year, and the problem just started again. Has anyone with this machine experienced anything like this?

My friend Cindi had this problem. Her husband took the pedal apart and discovered that despite the pedal being "sealed", some dust and hair had worked its way inside. He cleaned off the contacts and she was good to go!

Was this on an Innovis? I'm looking at the pedal and I can't see how it could be taken apart. How did he do it?
    Thanks!

My first thought is that there is an electrical connection problem. Either in the pedal itself or in the plug area. If taking the pedal apart and cleaning it doesn't do the trick, you'll have to take it in and have them look specificly at the wires connecting the plug. Just a thought. Mona

    Hi Carol,

I have the innovis 4000D and I have never had this problem.... that said, I have very rarely use it for sewing.... I just use it mainly for embroidery.

Hope you get it worked out!

    Hugs

No, it was a Janome. I'm not sure how he took it apart. All of the foot pedals for my machines (2 Brothers and 2 Janomes) look like they need to be pried apart in certain places. Maybe find a handy neighbor or relative, or take the pedal in and ask the tech to clean it?

I have the 4000D and after looking at the pedal can't figure out how to get it to open up. But I can see that there could be a problem of dust and dirt, it's not sealed. I would take it to the shop and have them open it up and clean it. Let me know how it goes. Sorry I couldn't be more help. Mona

Based on your responses, I took my foot pedal, which I had no idea how to open--I pulled the retractible cord out as far as it would go, and I vacuumed at the little hole where the cord comes out with my portable shop vac, and it has worked perfectly ever since.
    I LOVE THIS BOARD!!!!
    Thanks so much!

Good to know! I don't use this pedal much but would hate to have anything happen to it. Thank you so much!
