Default Marking for Crosshatch Quilting

Do any of you know of a good, quick way to mark fabric for crosshatch quilting. I have tried marking with a yardstick as well as using the guide on my sewing machine, but neither has resulted in perfectly accurate lines when finished. I've purchased a new fine point disappearing ink marking pen and am ready to get at it. I would appreciate any new ideas, or suggestions as to what I'm doing wrong. Thanks!!

Masking tape works well, comes in various widths and can be re-used a few times. Some use only the blue painters tape but I haven't had any problems with plain masking tape, but I also do not let it stay on the fabric any longer than necessary.

For hand quilting I'm using the Frixion pen.

Thank you KR for your quick response and great suggestion. Do I just keep moving it over one row at a time, lining it up with the previous stitch line?

I use masking tape so I don't have to deal with getting rid of the marking lines.

Thank you so much. I am definitely going out today and pick up some. I was a bit concerned about the marking lines as well.

I have used masking tape for both hand quilting and machine quilting. Just make sure you don't sew over it, it can be a bear to get out from under the stitches.

Wonderful! Looks like masking tape is the way to go. Thanks for the tip . . . I can see how catching it in the stitches would be a nightmare.

Here is my tip, don't try keeping the lines square based on the previous line. They will tend to wander. Istead make evenly spaced tic marks along the edge of the quilt and connect them. If keeping a true 45 degrees in two directions is a challenge, try the hanging diamonds pattern. It is marked on one diagonal and the vertical.
