Default Did I get a good deal on 108" 100% cotton muslin?

I was visiting my sister in Michigan today. (I am from Ontario) We went to Joann's and bought some fabrics. Then I mentioned that I read on here that people were seeing more and more fabric aisles in WM. So, we decided to go there and check it out. Sure enough!! there were at least 4 aisles of fabric.

While scouting around, I found a bolt of the 108" wide muslin. I thought I could use this for quilt backings. The price was 3.00/yd. I asked how much was on the bolt, and the lady estimated around 8 or 9 yds. So I told her that I would take the whole bolt. It turned out to be 9 3/8 yds.

I am sure that the 108" wide quilt backing was around $14 - $15 /metre at my LQS the last time I looked. I ripped it straight and washed it. Then tried to dry it, (took forever!). I have it laying across my bed right now, to make sure that it dries completely before i put it away. I think I might be able to get 4 quilt backs from it.

I guess my question is............. did I find a good buy for the purpose of using the muslin for quilt backings, or not?

I think you did. I bought some wide at jo anns and it was pretty expensive and it faded all over the place when I washed it. I use muslin a lot for my kiddies quilts.

You got a good buy. I have seen 45" muslin for about that price.

Thank you all for your replies. I usually never find a good deal like this, so I am a little proud of myself. The lady at the cutting table said she has never seen the wide material go on sale. I don't know whether it was labled by mistake?

@ Pat625 - yes, I did make the top in my picture. It actually started out as a "Broken Star", but once i started putting it together, i realized that it was going to be WAY to big. Once I had all 32 stars made, i laid them out on my bed (queen size) and found out that by the time I would've sewn everything together with the outside borders, the quilt wound up across my bed, down the sides, and out on the floor by about a foot and a half. I thought that was a LITTLE too big. I had to come up with a plan, since I had made the diamonds too big. I decided to make TWO quilts. They wound up looking like 2 giant "Rolling Stars", (one of my favorite patterns). Since they both got donated to good causes, I was happy with it.
