Foot pedal?
We just had our first problem with buying on eBay. The mocha 301 arrived and the foot controller doesn't work.
When we plug it in the light comes on but the machine doesn't run. We have another 301 and it runs fine with this controller. What should we do? A) contact seller. B) contact eBay. C) figure out how to repair with you all's help.

You should:
A: Contact the seller, see if he'll refund you the cost of a replacement or repair.
C: Figure out how to fix it yourself. That's always a good thing.
B: Contact eBay if the seller is a jerk about it.
You can buy new foot controllers, both standard and electronic at Sew-Classics. You can also get one with a new wire and connector attached if you need to.
I don't know where to get genuine Singer controller, maybe I should look.
You've probably got a bad wire in either the cord block where it attaches to the machine, or in the foot controller. They really are not that hard to fix.
The one suggestion I have is this; if the wiring has the smooth outer shell with two strands inside, there's a very good chance it's the ancient aluminum wire with latex insulating. Replace it if it shows the slightest sign of deterioration.

Always contact the seller first. Contact ebay only if the seller doesn't reply...or won't do a refund, etc. I always give the seller the benefit of the doubt first...most are honest & don't want their feedback trashed!
If the foot control works on a different machine, you can pretty much figure the problem isn't the foot control.

We have a black 301 and the foot controller runs the new mocha just fine. We contacted the seller and he is going to see if he has another foot controller. If he doesn't which exact part do we need to order?

Your problem might be very simple. The contacts on the machine may be compressed. If the controller from the black machine works on the beige machine and the beige machine control works the black machine, switch them out. If you don't want to do that, look at the pins on the beige machine and see if one of the pins is compressed. Take a very thin screw driver and GENTLY spread the pin. Test and repeat until the machine runs. Hope this helps.
