Foot vs Foot Pedal Funnies

Cruising Craigslst, you have surely seen ads where, clearly, the seller does not sew. I crack up every time they say "comes with a foot but needs new cord" -- and you see the foot pedal with nasty, frayed wires showing. Or "has just one foot but it works" and you see a rusty medal pedal close up for proof.
Such entertainment, i can hardly stand it.

Lordy be, I would run from either of those machines! And people think they're going to sell them?? If I saw a rusty, frayed foot petal I'd be afraid of what the inside of the machine looks like. Ick!

Sellers of machines clearly don't always know what they have. There's a listing for a nice looking Singer Model 15 on a local craigslist - for $1000!

My cousin wanted to list his mom's machine on Craig's List. It is an 80's Singer...he wanted to list it for $250. I told him that in it's current condition (been in a dirty basement for decades) that I wouldn't pay $50 for it.

If y'all will hop on over to the vintage machine thread there's a whole topic poking fun at similar Craig's List ads. I saw one a couple weeks ago with a picture of a machine whose condition was questionable at best, stated that they thought it probably still worked ok, asking either $1250 or $1500 because it was an antique. Oh and it had a foot petal!
And then there was someone who had a trundle sowing machine too.
Lots of funnies!!!

Or the ones that they claim "work" because you can press the foot pedal and watch the needle go up and down. Of course that means it will sew, right?

Sometimes if you list an item "right" - all you get is people who want you to give it to them for free.
If it is off or crazy listed, maybe you are serious and will at least go look at the machine even if you don't buy it.

Some machines that are supposedly working just fine, are missing the tension assembly, bobbin case etc...
Or the only picture is of the back of the machine.
