Default Too Short!

Last night I was trying to finish a quilt. After taking the quilt of the frame I trimmed it and started to attach the binding....happy camper....got to the end and was 2inches short....

I do know how to do the math and thought that I had measured it several times and added enough for the miter corner but I guess not..

Did I have more of it?? I started searching, of course by now it's after midnight and I was not going to bed until It was done. Where or where did I have just a little bit of it... Yay, i found five 2inch strips, so I added it to my 2.25 and even if it is 1/8 short on each side It worked...

Went to bed at 1:15.

Glad you got it fixed!

Oh the panic you must have felt.

I always cut it way long because that's one of my quilting phobias.

Oh, good, a happy ending. I was afraid you wouldn't find enough. Bet you slept well!

Hate when that happens.

I am also happy for you that you were able to get it done!

Aaaakkkk. Been there done that. Glad you found extra pieces. Now I'm paranoid too and end up making way too much binding.

When I measure for my binding I always add 10" at least to the measurement so I have some to fiddle with when I come to the two ends. I add my binding at the ironing board using Elmer's Glue before I take it to the sewing machine so no straight pins to prick me and get blood on my close to finish quilt. I usually make up my binding before my quilt is even completely by cutting the strips needed. I estimate what the quilt top is supposed to end up at in size and then give myself an extra strip just for safety measure. Those extra strips will go into my scrap box for the same size so nothing goes to waste here.
