I'm making a quilt for my son and the center block is going to be a falcon (school bird) and underneath I would like his HS name and date embroidered on it.

Can anyone help me out with this? Still in the planning stage, so no hurry. Did find a falcon picture though.

are you goin to make falcon in black material.i have found that if you embroidery letters[name of school]in the chain stitch or lazy daisy stitch, your work come out smoother than if you'd tried to embroidery in straight stitch, mine does anyway. hope this helps, molly

No, I found this fabric that sortof looks like feathers and going to cut him out of this and applique it onto a block of sky/clouds. Underneath the falcon, in navy blue, I want to put his school name and years.

Does this make sense?

Anyone with an embroidery machine could put the name on the block prior to it being put in the quilt. I could for you but I live far away from NH........isn't there someone local to you?

Are you hand embroidering? If so I would suggest stem stitch for the lettering and long and short stitch to fill in most of the falcon and satin stitch for the smaller details. Here is a link to a tutorials.

I don't know anyone locally that has an embroidery machine. I'll ask around though. I really didn't want to do it by hand, but if need be, that's what I'll do.

There are smaller scripts for emb machines that would work well for that. http://emblibrary.com/ has some and they are pretty reasonable.

There are also designs for the emb machine for applique work. You print out the outline of the applique, and cut the fabric. The machine sews an outline stitch, you spray baste the back of the applique and stick it down in the outline. The machine then satin stitches the appliques down.

Maybe someone here has seen an eagle applique design like this :D:D:D
