Oh, I think it is too, but it is unique and looks very clean. Also has attachments with it. No, I won't be getting it, just thought I would show it. Treadles and vintage machines are going up in price here.

To the new owner of the FW, congrats. She sure is pretty.

I brought my Singer 66 home with me today. My little guy did really good at the shop and had lots of questions about every machine in there. The shop guy thinks he's a collector in training! :)

To the one who posted about back clamps, I now understand what they are. Thank you!! My 66-16 is a side clamp. It amazes me how similar all these machines look, yet they are all so different!

It looked good in the picture, but it looked even better in person. It has the case with tray and key, the case is showing its age, but, I don't really care, it is only cosmetic. It also came with a manual, and some bobbins. I found that when I looked up the attachments it uses, I already have some of them from other machines. So, it didn't bother me that it didn't have any attachments with it. This morning, I took the bottom off and there is a new filter in there. The chrome is nice and shiny. It has been pretty well taken care of. I am going to use the pic as my new avatar. It is a 1951 with the blue centenial badge on it. I am a very happy camper. Sorry this was so long. Almost forgot, her name is Phyllis, after my younger sister who passed away 5 years ago.
Congratulations on getting Phyllis for such a reasonable price - a centennial to boot!

As you can see in the pics she has her original cabinet too.
Before I even plugged her in, I gave her a good cleaning, with lots of oil and grease.
We plugged her in and she squealed and fussed until the oil and grease got to the places that had been so dry and uncared for.
She came with the '0' cam.
She has a knee bar and I ordered extra cams from ebay Sunday evening.
I joined a Slantomatic group on Yahoo and downloaded two manuals, the 503 and the 500.
The 503 had a great exploded view of all the oiling places and the gears to grease.
I am really excited to play with her.
I now have a machine that can zig-zag.
With the price of the cams coming I have less than $50.00 invested in the whole kit and kaboodle.
What a blessing this machine is to me.
I have named her Faith.
I would love to hear from anyone who has one like Faith to gleam your knowledge of do's and don'ts.

Blessings to all,
Sandi

Hubby will put her back in the cabinet this evening.
Sandi, you will love that machine! I have a 503a, Rocketeer, is that the 403? Anyway, those are great machines, but remember you can't sew anything without a cam in the machine! I use my Rocketeer for decorative stitches, monogramming and anytime I want something really fancy stitched. The number 8 cam is a great blanket stitch for applique'. It uses normal Schmetz 15x1 needles and class 66 bobbins! Congratulations, around here those machines are going for much more than you paid!

I bit high in price for me too.
The White 77 model were fashioned to compete with the Singer Featherweight model 221; it has a lightweight body.
But they are a lot lower in price than the FWs. Cute machines too!

Yup, I have noticed that the prices are going up almost all across the nation. Large cities have the most inflated prices, totally ridiculous.

Thank you Nancy for all the great info.
Faith is a 500A.
I have wanted a machine that would do all sorts of stitches without breaking the bank to own one.
I spent the afternoon doing some research about the available cams and what their stitches look like.
I saw that blanket stitch cam and I am hoping it is one of the ones that I am getting from ebay.

Blessings to you,
Sandi

And here in CA too!! I can't hardly find a treadle under $100+. Even in really bad condition. I will have to travel over 100 miles to the L.A. area to find one eventually. Just not right now.

Here's another newbie question. What are cams? How do they make decorative stitches? Would you use them on a straight stitch machine or does it have to zig zag to make them work. I'm real curious.

Ok that explains why you can't find an allotted date for your machine. Your machine was made sometime after 1963 in Taiwan. I don't think you will find allotted records on those machines -- just like we have no actual dating records for all the 15 and 99 Singer clones made in Japan after WW2.

Chris, on the other hand, should be able to find an allotted date for the NA series because those machines were made in South Carolina - unless those are also lost records.

G'day Nancy

Thanks sooo much!! I didn't know some were made in Taiwan, well it was probably on the printed sticker which has been wiped with something that has removed 'all' info.

Thanks again
Bronwyn ;-)
