It may be for a Pfaff 260, or about that same style. The hole gives access to the bobbin case.

We've discussed this cabinet on VSS and have come to the conclusion that it's a mid century modern unknown. Pfaff wasn't the only one to use the bobbin access hole and none of us could find another like it anywhere.
