Default A machine not for the collection

My main machine is a 33 year old Viking 990. I'd be heartbroken if it stopped working, so I've been watching on eBay to get a spare.

This one came up a while back, and I saw it and meant to ask DH, but forgot. It was on a Buy-it-now and still there when I left work, but Sold by the time I got home. Oh well, can't when them all.

The next day it showed back up with an even lower Buy-it-now price, and I jumped on it!

The listing said "very nice condition, no control, sold for parts/repair".

This machine looks unused. The attachments and bobbins are still with the original plastic bags, and the machine had the blue plastic around the edges of the arm to protect from scuffing. There is not a mark of use on it.

I plugged it in, it powers up and runs, but I didn't do anything else until DH has a chanse to give it a once over. It's likely this machine has not seen much running time in 30 years, so a good going over will make sure nothing is sticking from lack of use.

Well done Cathy! All the stars were aligning for you. A spare brand new machine has to be better than you expected.

I asked the seller where they got it. She said she picked it and 8 other machines up at a flea market, the seller had got them all out of a storage locker. She said she bought them figuring they would not work, but the ones she could test worked just fine.

Oh, the stories our machines could tell - if they could talk!

So happy for you Cathy. I love the color of that machine and to think it is nearly brand new or maybe brand new after all these years is nearly an impossible find. Enjoy!!!!

I love the color of that one too. What a nice surprise to find it at an even lower price and in pristine condition!

DH opened it up today- not a speck of lint or wear anywhere - and the grease is still good and there is plenty.

He just laughed when he took the back off - he said this machine has never been used. Now we'll have to use it to see if there is a reason why it's not been used LOL!!
