Mercury found at yard sale
Mercury found at yard sale for $10.00. Is this machine areal clone? Mercury numbered EA480552 is marked Japan and looks a lot like aclone. The wheel shaft is not the size of Singer wheels and Singer needle clampdoes not fit. Where can I find any information on this machine? My limitedinternet skills have not had any success.

Just another thought on that box the Mercury is in. If you go to the website of Zorba The veiled Male , you can see him rebuilding a sewing machine box and covering it with that same snakeskin looking fabric, purchased from a place that sells handles, coverings, hardware for musicians and their gear. From reading on his site, I wonder if this box the Mercury is in is a re-covered one.

A very heavy machine, cast iron. It uses a flat topped bobbin, not a class 66. A needle clamp from a 66 is not large enough to fit and a wheel from a 66 does not fit either. It does look and act just like a 99 and the hook assembly works just like a 99.
