I think it is a wonderful marriage of great technologies.

That's precisely why I like treadleing, I can make it stop on a dime...it took practice, and I can mostly stop it with the needle in the up position. I can just feel it in my feet and the flywheel.

Do you have the manual for the 226 or was that the model number on the machine? I did find a manual for the 224 on singerco's site, but not one for the 226. The 224 takes discs also. Manual says 224U1 for treadle, 224U2 for hand operation, and 224U3 for motor drive.

Looking over this thread and additional google searches, I see that the 226 appears to be a cross between the 224 and the the 227. It uses cams like the 224, but has presser foot dial on the side like a 227. I agree with Rodney about getting a lift assist to paint to match the machine. I'm sure there is something close as I recently obtained a 401 with matching color to light beige of the hand wheel over spray all over the machine with heavier amounts of paint along the lip (looked like it may have been left in the cabinet when tried to paint cabinet to match).

Did it fit the cabinet? Or did you have to trim it some? This looks really interesting.
