I LOVE that 99!!
Janice, I have a hand crank 99 and I think that it might just be my favorite machine. Kathie

[Evidently there are 12 different sizes of these top clamp attachments that all fit different machines...

Those are nice looking feet. Kathie

I need some help. I am trying to get my Red Eye up and going and I think I may have a tension problem. The bottom of the fabric is a mess and went I cut the bobbin thread there were three pieces of thread coming out of the bobbin hole. I have tried rethreading it and have put in a new needle. Kathie

Sound like a bobbin problem. Pull the bobbin thread with your fingers is it hard to pull are very easy. If it is very hard to pull and almost breaking the thread you may need to change tension on the bobbin or vica versa. You could have a bad bobbin.

Kathie what does the stitch look like on top fabric? Is the tension control installled correctly. I will look at may red eye in the morning and see what else it could be. I very seldom have problems with the red eye.

My 15-91 does this thing where, after letting up the gas, the needle still goes up and down a few times before stopping. Not really a big deal, but when quilting, it leaves little "french knots" of thread where I stopped the machine to adjust my quilt. I bought a new pedal and DH put it on for me. I thought maybe that would help but not really. Any ideas? I think I may need a new motor. Is that a difficult thing to do/find?

I am retiring Friday, and am looking forward to the extra time to figure out all the attachments. I have found some literature online explaining how to use them.

Actually my Davis came with a little original Singer envelope with 3 long needles. Maybe someone will want them.

Congratulations on your retirement!

For you guys trying to figure out needle size, here is the site to help you. Remember, this chart is arranged alphabetically by 'model' name first! The Davis long is actually a Boye 10 or a 1X2 needle. There are other machines that used a longer than normal needle, i.e., the early New Home took a Boye 4 or a 20X1 needle.

Too bad the treadle irons are missing the foot plate.

Take some of the thread off your bobbin and then make sure you have your bobbin in correctly. Make sure it is seated correctly.

How did you put the needle in? The flat side goes to the right. The needle threads from left to right(outside to inside). Is the take up lever all the way up before you try to take your fabric out? Let me know if these suggestions help, please.
