About the godzila finish on an old Singer, is it the dull rough black on a machine? Are there certain years that the machines were made in that finish? I'm thinking that they were during WW2, is this correct? Other years too? Are those machines really rare and more desired machines?
I've seen one with a dull black finish recently but the serial number had been removed, so I don't know what it is, nor when it was made. The only things that date it are on the bobbin cover plate are a series of patent dates with the latest being 1910, and it had a 'Singer' plate bolted on the arm instead of the decals. The book, or what part of it was there showed a treadle machine, and the motor on the machine was labeled Universal. I think it was a treadle made into an electric machine.

Janis,
The Singers 99 and Spartan(192) are basically the same machine, the Spartan was the bargain model with no light and housed in a plastic base; same size as the 99.

Charlee,
That is one gorgeous machine! Check out all the room under the arm. I wish modern machines had the height that that one does, would make machine quilting so much easier.

I found online at White Sewing Center where you can get the friction wheel with instructions and a tool rental to get out and back in. I wonder if anyone has done this before and how complicated it is to replace?

That is Ray White's site; an old Elna guy from way back. You can trust him.
Tommie

Met him at the Gold Country TOGA last month...he's a real great guy!!

I would like to... let me know how it goes... I have 3 to do. The sewing shop wants $200.

I haven't touched my Supermatic at all to try to run it...need that pesky knee lever. But one of these days.....then I'll get the stuff from Ray, too.

Monica, are you sure you would want to place something sew gorgeous in a basement???

I don't have a basement, this is all if.

But you're correct about not putting that in basement. So, my basement has turned into a humongous sewing room!

It's a lovely piece to own...if....

That is indeed, kinda makes me wish I had my house back to place that beauty in it.

I need a vintage sofa for this room too. This one is perfect since it turns into a bed!

Never seen a vintage sofa like this.

That's a really cool sofa bed!! Never seen one!

Did you get it??? I would have driven down there FAST!! I LOVE that one....wow...not a 15 clone either. Interesting!

Billy, glad to see you poking your head into the shop. We miss you!! :-)

I will be getting the green Royal this week. We just could not connect over the weekend. I found out that there is no top to the case. But that just means it will have to be on continual display, green is my favorite color anyway. :-)

Thanks - and I found a home for the 66 - the year and month of it's 'birth' is the same as my mom's,so it's going to be named Esther Jean and it's going to live with my sister. We used to have a Singer treadle when we were growing up and my sister remembers not being allowed to use Mom's electric at first - the older girls had to learn to sew on the treadle so they wouldn't mess up her machine.
